CCD Faith Formation
Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) is a religious education program of the Roman Catholic Church, primarily designed for children who do not attend Catholic schools. Its purpose is to provide instruction in the faith and prepare young Catholics to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.
The origins of CCD date back to Rome in 1562, when it was founded as an association dedicated to teaching the Catholic faith, especially to children and those lacking access to formal religious education. It gained wider recognition under Pope Pius X, who strongly encouraged catechesis for all the faithful, especially the young.
Today, CCD remains an essential part of parish life, helping to form the next generation of Catholics by grounding them in Scripture, Church teachings, prayer, and sacramental life.
